What is preventive care?
You don't have to wait until you are sick to worry about your health. Preventive care means spotting early what threatens your health and acting before illness sets in: regularly checking your vital signs, screening for silent diseases, adapting your diet and physical activity.
Several factors contribute to our good health: the person themselves, physical activity, diet, and the family and work environment. Many problems caught early have simple solutions: it is better to bother the doctor for nothing than to wait.
SmileDom does not replace your insurance: insurance covers the costs after you fall ill, SmileDom helps you fall ill as rarely as possible. Our solution is complementary, neither competing nor exclusive.
Why prevention matters in Cameroon
Illness is often played down: “I’ll wait for it to pass”, “I won’t see the doctor just for a fever”. Yet several common diseases progress silently. [Proposed text, to be reviewed by Dr Kelly, with sources: WHO, Ministry of Public Health]
High blood pressure and diabetes
Often without symptoms for years, they are discovered late, when a complication occurs. Simply checking blood pressure and blood sugar regularly makes it possible to spot them early.
What is high blood pressure?Malaria and seasonal illnesses
The rainy season brings back malaria and water-borne diseases. The right habits and quick treatment prevent severe forms, especially in children and the elderly.
MalariaAccess to care in the villages
The health centre is sometimes far away, and people only travel when things are serious. Our network of local nurses comes to your home, in town and in the village.
Our home care plansParents far from their children
When you live abroad or in another city, it is hard to know how your parents are really doing. SmileDom looks after them for you and keeps you informed.
